A successful deployment starts with the requirements of your application. Before installing software, review its supported runtime, memory needs, storage requirements, and network connections.

1. Choose your environment

Select a supported operating system and a server configuration that fits your application. Account for database storage, peak traffic, background tasks, and room for growth. Confirm the software’s installation instructions with its official documentation.

2. Establish secure access

Create an administrative account, configure SSH key access, and verify that it works before changing authentication settings. Keep a recovery method available. Restrict inbound network access to the ports your application actually needs.

3. Prepare the runtime

Install the runtime and dependencies supported by your application. Use an isolated application directory and avoid running the application as the root user. Store configuration secrets outside your source repository.

4. Set up HTTPS and process management

Point your domain to the server, configure a reverse proxy when needed, and use a valid TLS certificate. Run persistent application processes under a service manager so they can restart after failures or server reboots.

5. Verify and monitor
