List the root domain, www address, subdomains, and other hostnames that users actually visit before selecting coverage.
Choose suitable validation
Domain validation and organization checks answer different identity questions. Match the certificate type to the requirement.
Make renewal routine
Plan issuance, installation, renewal, and expiry monitoring together. A certificate that is purchased but not deployed does not protect the connection.
Separate coverage from identity validation
Single-name, wildcard, and multi-domain arrangements describe hostname coverage. DV, OV, and EV describe validation processes. For example, *.example.com matches www.example.com, but not example.com or shop.eu.example.com; those need appropriate additional names or coverage. A higher validation level does not mean an application is free of vulnerabilities. Confirm the exact names and certificate type before purchase.
Understand what HTTPS does and does not do
A correctly configured TLS connection protects data in transit between endpoints and helps authenticate the server name. It does not replace secure application code, access controls, updates, or backups. Mixed content and incorrect redirects can still create problems after a certificate is installed.
